Visitors
to South Australia's far north should feel compelled to included Woomera
in their itinerary. Five hours drive from Adelaide, it is the unique
towns history of missiles and rockets for both scientific and defence
purposes that kept it shrouded in secrecy for many part years. Woomera's
role into the new millennium will be a combination of modern defence
and commercial spaceport activities with organisation such as Kistler
Aerospace Corporation of the USA and its world's first fully reusable
launch vehicle, the Kistler
K-1.
Woomera Travellers Village provides visitors to the area with a selection
of accommodation styles. Choose from powered caravan sites, grassed
tent areas, backpacker rooms, air-conditioned en-suite park cabins and
motel style rooms and budget cabins. Campers have access to the laundry
and amenities, barbecue, camp kitchen and kiosk. The village has a Heritage
museum, missile park, shopping centre, theatre and swimming pool amongst
other facilities.
Tours
of Roxby Downs and Andamooka are highly recommended when staying at
Woomera, with all the information available from reception. Park host
Bob Little can offer all the advice guests may require, and is always
available for assistance around the centre.
